This is an appealing and reasonably priced McLaren Vale Shiraz for the big-red lover in your life. It combines oodles of ripe cherry and currant fruit with savory, earthy notes like tobacco leaf, ground pepper and sage. There's a whack of oak here too, and, on the palate, a bit of heat from the alcohol. Despite this, the wine is medium weight, softly tannic and fresher than all that boozy, sweet fruit implies.
